Well, here is certainly some sad, and difficult, news to report; …. BUT YOU have the opportunity to make a difference !
Our classmate, and great friend – Tinker Rhodes – has been given the worst of all news. Two months to live at the most.
Eight or so years ago he had liver cancer and was treated (I think he had a transplant) and had been in remission until just very recently. He had been building a house on Pickwick Lake for a while and just back in October retired from Memphis Light Gas and Water. His wife gave her notice to leave her job and they were to move to the house the same week he learned that the cancer had returned in a vicious way.
The doctors were trying some new, even experimental, treatments and he was returning to Memphis every week or so for treatments, but now they feel they have done all they could.
Please take a few moments to do 2, or all 4, of these things:
1. Speak a heartfelt prayer to God above on behalf of Tinker – and his family – as he, and they, go through this very difficult time. Pray that a God miracle will rain down on him to recover; but if not, that his pain will be eased and that the family will be as strong as humanly possible. As you may know from your own life, they will need all the support and comfort they can receive. No expression is too small or goes unnoticed.
2. Send him a card or a handwritten note telling him what he means to you.
3. Call him on the phone at the number below and tell him yourself.
4. Email him at his wife’s email address below.
Tinker has daughters (Rachel and Sarah) from his marriage to Suzanne Norville and step-daughters from his current marriage. I don’t know their names yet. Glynn may know them.
Tinker’s address and numbers are below.

I do wish each of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New 2006 and hope that you will let Tinker know how you feel. It will mean a lot to him of course, …but also to his wife and daughters to see that he meant so much to his high school classmates.
I sure hate being the bearer of bad news so many times; but I do the best I can out of love and respect for each of you.
Thanks!
